TOYS MADE OF CORK
These little cork toys are very easily made from old corks, or from new straight ones, sold for a few cents at a drug store.
The heads of the horse, pig, and elephant are made from cardboard. First trace on the cardboard, using carbon paper, then cut them out with scissors. After dipping in glue, stick them into slits in the bodies.
The legs for the horse and pig are made from burnt matches. Cut matches the right length, sharpen, dip end in glue, and stick into the cork. Matches are too slender for the legs of the elephant. For these, whittle four pegs from a soft pine stick and sharpen, dip in glue, and stick in cork body.
The tails of the elephant and pig are made of paper. The pig's tail is curled. The horse's tail is made of bits of black worsted. All of the tails are dipped in glue and fastened in slits in the cork bodies.
From a bit of thread a pair of reins may be made for the horse as shown in the picture.
